	JOIN THE HUMAN RACEWhen a game becomes a sport.

Gran Turismo was released on PlayStation in 1997. What started out as a racing video game turned into reality. The best GT gamers became professional drivers and some even finished on the podium at Le Mans.&#38;nbsp;
For me, the highlight of this campaign was interviewing the game’s creator Kaz Yumauchi about the evolution of racing simulators.

	GO TO THE OPERA!Stiff. Old. Expensive. Elitist. Boring. Cryptic.&#38;nbsp;Portland Opera had an image problem. For years, they had been sending out the same uninspired brochure—replete with with stock photos and flowery verbiage that neither broke through the apathy of the uninitiated operagoer nor inspired the devoted patron. 
So we combined a simple directive — GO TO THE OPERA — with show descriptions that would intrigue even the biggest skeptic.

In 2016, I published a novel with St. Martin’s Press. The New York Times called it “soulful.” The Toronto Star called it “brilliant and perverse.” My mom thought the characters could’ve been nicer to one another.

THE 120
After writing a book about homesickness, I figured the best cure was a 120 county book tour of Kentucky. The catch? I only had 28 days. The result was a whirlwind road trip that was exhausting, beautiful, and stange. Words can’t do it justice. I ended up driving 5,400 miles and never left the state. That’s about the distance it takes to drive across Russia. What started as a hare-brained idea became a life-changing experience.

  
	It made front-page, above-the-fold news.

BASEBALL IS BETTER


MLB The Show needed to draw in a new audience. The problem? The average sports gamer didn’t follow or think about baseball. For years interest in baseball has declined. People say the games are too long, too boring, and that there are no marketable superstars. America's pastime needed a little more personality. And a lot more swagger. So we made a bold claim: BASEBALL is BETTER. Better than anything. And everything. We shattered sales records and grew the game’s social presence exponentially by developing a voice I like to describe as your slightly annoying little brother.

	We started each campaign when pitchers and catchers report.


And expanded our reach by recruiting a team of players to star in a massive digital campaign, poked the bear with site takeovers, and used infographics to give scientific proof of baseball’s supremacy.

	THE COVER CONUNDRUMPlayStation had always let their fans vote on the cover of MLB The Show, but in 2015 they placed their bets on a polarizing player: Yasiel Puig. Our solution included a guessing game and a celebration of our fans’s creativity with an epic live Photoshop.
